No STR driver decisions until September
Thursday 31 July at 21:42 : Gerhard Berger on Thursday said Toro Rosso will not be making any decisions about its 2009 driver lineup until September.

The Austrian former grand prix winner, who co-owns the Faenza based squad with Red Bull's Dietrich Mateschitz, told the news agency APA that Fernando Alonso is the key to the driver market at present.

At the wheel of STR's Ferrari powered single seaters this year is Sebastian Vettel, who is bound for Red Bull Racing next year, and the struggling French rookie Sebastien Bourdais.

"If Alonso moves," Berger said, "then there could be drivers with experience available."

Presumably, he is referring to the fact that if Alonso moves to Honda next year, then Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello may be on the market.

And if the double world champion sees BMW-Sauber as his new team, then Nick Heidfeld could be the experienced driver looking for a seat.

Berger continued: "There are also good new-generation Red Bull drivers, and Toro Rosso is aligned with the new generation.

"Ideally we would like to have a young driver next to an experienced one.

"We also have to see how Bourdais develops over the second half of the season," he added.
