Mexico wants to join 2010 calendar
Saturday 9 August at 17:45 : Mexico is hoping to be added to an expanded formula one calendar in 2010.

Mexican racing official Jose Abed, an FIA vice-president, believes F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone has been given a green-light to add two new races to the 2010 schedule.

"Those changes will be made by 2010 and, if it happens, (Mexico will) have to work hard to have a proper track. Even so, we must wait for Bernie Ecclestone's decision to include Mexico," he is quoted as saying by Sportsya.

Abed, who was involved in the Mexican grand prix held at Mexico City's Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez between 1986 and 1992, said Puebla, Cancun and Tijuana are interested in becoming the country's new GP host.

He also said that governments at both the federal and state levels are willing to back the race.

"We are able to do it, because the authorities are willing to make the relevant investments and everyone has a chance. We just have to afford it since a Formula One track is worth more than $50 million," said Abed.
